Intro to Garment Construction

Garment Construction can sometimes feel overwhelming. But here at The Sewist we want to help demystify the complexities of making clothes, so you can feel confident in your skills.

A good place to start is to learn about the process, so in this informational class we will go over:

  • How to take your measurements properly (go home with a measurement card with your measurements on it)

  • Discover some of the special tools needed to for garment construction.

  • Learn industry lingo (i.e., muslin, armscye…)

  • Learn about ease and why it’s so important. Also, what’s the difference between fitting ease, and design ease?

  • Learn about some of the techniques you will use.

Participants should wear close fitting clothing that makes it easy to take measurements.

We are all about body positivity, participants of all shapes and sizes are encouraged to attend!
